 What to Expect

A fun-filled four days and three nights of sewing, laughing, shopping, and eating.  Bring a quilt or two to share at show and tell and plan to visit some of our local quilt shops.
 
Enjoy learning opportunities with Alex and our guest instructor.  Attendees can attend the guest lectures and classes and/or bring your own project(s) to work on. Alex and our guest instructor will be available all day, every day to help you with your projects and demonstrate tips and techniques.
 
Our sewing room is open 24 hours a day.  Sew on your own schedule.  Enjoy shopping at our on-site,  full-service quilt shop, provided by Cotton Patch and visit several local quilt shops within easy driving distance.  

 


Quilting In The Garden

The week prior to retreat, plan to attend Quilting in the Garden in nearby Livermore, CA.  This show is hosted by Alden Lane Nursery, a beautiful venue featuring several quilt artists and a week full of classes for every interest.  Check out their website for information on the featured artist and a list of classes.  Register early for classes as they sell out quickly.

Machine Rental $ 75
Early Start $50


Payment methods available are credit card or personal check. If you wish to pay by credit card, please email Debbie Stevens for a payment link.  A $20 fee will be applied to the total price for payment by credit card.  Price includes instruction and access to two professional quilt instructors, door prizes, shopping discounts and many of your meals.  The hotel is located near many restaurants and shopping centers.
 

Hotel Accommodations

We will book your hotel rooms at the Marriott for retreat (Sept 29 - Oct 2nd) from a block of rooms we have reserved at a negotiated discount price ($119/night) for retreat attendees.  Attendees are responsible for payment of their room.  Please indicate on the registration form your room preference and your roommate if you are sharing a room.  Room rates during retreat are $119 plus tax.  
If you are attending Quilting in the Garden or the No Frills Early Start, you may need a room prior to retreat. Rooms are available at the Marriott or you may prefer to find a hotel of your preference and transfer to the Marriott for the retreat.  Marriott hotel rates are higher priced outside of the retreat days ($269+/night).  We found many local hotels, some in Livermore close to Quilting in the Garden, that are budget friendly. 

 


No Frills Early Start

The no-frills, early-start is for attendees who would like to check in a day early, sew and visit with friends.  You will have 24 hour access to the sewing room from 12 noon on September 28th through 3PM on September 29th.  There will be no instructors or meals included on this day.  Guests are responsible for their own food and lodging on the night of the early-start.

Becky is an award winning quilter who travels to teach quilting both nationally and internationally.  Her classes are always interesting and informative, with an emphasis on teaching techniques that will help you improve your sewing skills--while keeping it fun!

Making quilts is interesting, fulfilling, and challenging—for all of us! Being a member of the greater quilting community is a bonus that adds to all of our lives. Becky never imagined that being a quilter would become her life’s work, but she’s so happy that it did!

 

Becky Goldsmith Is best known as being half of the Piece O’ Cake Designs team. She met Linda Jenkins, her business partner in Piece O’ Cake Designs, at a meeting of the Green Country Quilters’ Guild in Tulsa, OK, in 1986. They started Piece O' Cake in 1994 and, since then, have published more than 30 books and hundreds of patterns, including 7 Blocks of the Month. They continue to work together on books and patterns. Becky is the sole author of The Quilter’s Practical Guide to Color.
